Intelligence Squared US Panel Debate - "Climate Change: The EPA Has Gone Overboard"

Since Intelligence Squared US began in 2006, we have hosted a number of debates on topics ranging from cyber security, teachers unions, and illegal immigration, to domestic surveillance, current economic policy, the future of artificial intelligence and democracy in the Middle East. Past esteemed participants have included Malcolm Gladwell, Paul Krugman, Niall Ferguson, Alan Dershowitz,  Peter Thiel, Peter Singer, Dr. Martine Rothblatt, Karl Rove, Nadine Strossen, Akhil Amar, Randall Kennedy, Catharine MacKinnon, Scott Turow, David Brooks, PJ O'Rourke, Arianna Huffington, Nouriel Roubini, Natan Sharansky, Simon Johnson, General Michael Hayden, Secretary Michael Chertoff, Fareed Zakaria and manyothers of similar international stature.

The series has reached millions through multiplatform distribution, including carriage on 225 public radio stations, television, live streaming, podcasts, and interactive digital content.   The events are open to the public and the live audience for the series is comprised of 400+ ticket buyers with an interest in the subject matter.  Created in London in 2002, the Intelligence Squared debate program was brought to the US nine years ago as an initiative of The Rosenkranz Foundation with the goal of raising the level of public discourse by providing a forum for reasoned and informed discussion on the most challenging issues of the day.

The format is Oxford-style debate where two speakers argue “for” and two speakers argue “against” a motion. The evening begins with a live audience voting on the proposition. Opening statements are made, followed by a question-and-answer period and closing remarks. The evening comes to a close as the audience decides which side carried the day with a final vote.

Charles McConnell, EEi Executive Director, will argue in support of the motion.
